While waiting for weather conditions to stabilize, extreme adventurer and "citizen scientist" Sonya Baumstein is using her time at the Choshi marina to stock her boat with provisions and prepare instrumentation for the journey ahead. SonTek Application Engineer, Lee Pimble, and other members of the Xylem Analytics team stopped by to answer questions and provide pre-launch support. Sonya will use the Castaway-CTD along her trans-Pacific row to help verify the satellite readings of the ocean taken from space.

Baumstein will also attempt to break five world records as she rows (solo) her way 6,000 miles from Japan to San Francisco, along the way collecting conductivity, temperature and depth data that will be transmitted to Earth and Space Research Center (NASA's Aquarius project).
